Tom Holland Is the New Spider-Man: Web Slinger Redux!

The search for the latest Spider-Man is over. Tom Holland, who wowed us on screen in The Impossible opposite Naomi Watts and on the stage in Billy Elliot, has been tapped by Marvel to portray the web-slinger when the series hits theaters anew on July 28, 2017.

Also in Spider-Man news, Sony and Marvel have tapped a director, Jon Watts.

“It’s a big day here at Sony. Kevin (Feige), Amy (Pascal) and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding. I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception,” said Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman.

“I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”

We thought that Holland deserved an Oscar nomination for his work on The Impossible, so we cannot wait to see what he does with the superhero role. He scored the part after an extensive search by Marvel Studio head Feige and producer Pascal saw dozens of potential actors.
