When Tom Hanks tackles roles where his characters have to hit bottom and then find their way back, it always equals great success. The first trailer for Hanks’ latest film, A Hologram for a King, has landed and the tease for the comedic drama looks right in the double Oscar winner’s wheelhouse.
Hanks plays an American businessman who has seen better days. The Great Recession has hit his interests hard. He plans a trip to Saudi Arabia where he hopes to be integral in the building of a new luxurious city in the middle of the desert that could be the model for all cities of the future.
The title of the film comes from the fact that he’s pitching the deal of a lifetime to the King of Saudi Arabia – 3D hologram meeting services. Sounds like something they could use, huh?
The star (recently seen in the Oscar winning Bridge of Spies) is trying to fight off bankruptcy and save his daughter’s educational future. This is his last chance at something big.
While in the Middle Eastern country, he meets a taxi driver who takes a liking to and a doctor who treats him for anxiety and might just serve as a love interest.
A Hologram for the King also stars Alexander Black, Sarita Choudhury, Tom Skerritt and Ben Whishaw and lands in theaters April 22.
