Being the Ricardos’ Trailer: Aaron Sorkin’s Look at Lucy and Ricky

Amazon Prime Video has unleashed the first trailer for the highly-anticipated biopic on the marriage and showbiz success of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Their show, I Love Lucy, was not only a massive hit but remains one of the most beloved shows in television history.

As only Sorkin can, he takes us behind the scenes where things weren’t all champagne and roses.

The crux of the story follows Lucy and Desi as they put together an episode of their sitcom in 1952, from the table read to production.

It is uncanny how much Nicole Kidman looks and acts like Lucile Ball, and it is impeccable the casting of Javier Barden as Desi Arnaz.

The film follows the making of the show, but the drama clearly is found behind the scenes. The couple was the subject of paparazzi rumors, and constantly being written about in the tabloids. Both are addressed in the above teaser.

One of the most standout lines in the entire trailer, which isn’t filled with Sorkin’s typical rapid-fire dialogue is Lucy when she says, “I had no idea it was going to be a hit.” Not just a hit, Lucy, a culturally transcendent institution.

Being the Ricardos will debut in theaters on December 10, while landing on Amazon on December 21. The cast also includes J.K. Simmons, Alia Shawkat, Jake Lacy, Clarke Gregg, Nelson Franklin, John Rubinstein, Linda Lavin, Robert Pine, and Christopher Denham.
