Terry Crews is the rare star who can truly do it all, from TV acting and hosting (Brooklyn Nine-Nine and America’s Got Talent) to films such as Deadpool 2). He is currently starring in the Paramount+ original animated film that lands on the streaming giant on December 15, 2021. Rumble stars Crews as Tentacular, a monster wrestler that played on the stars’ own personal sporting past. The Movie Mensch caught up with the multifaceted talent for a terrific chat about Rumble and so much more.
Crews spoke to the pleasure of sharing a marquee with a voice talent cast list that is sublime, including legend Tony Danza, Sonic the Hedgehog himself, Ben Schwartz, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’I, Stephan A. Smith, Geraldine Viswanathan and the great Will Arnett (The Lego Batman Movie).
The superstar truly appreciated the art of voice acting and appearing in an animated film after a career that has spanned so many mediums. Above all else, the thing that is the big takeaway about Terry Crews is the attitude of gratitude. I have never met a Hollywood star so grounded, appreciative, and perpetually in awe of the opportunities he has been blessed with within the entertainment business since walking away from football.
Rumble finds a landscape where monster wrestling is an enormous global sport and the monstrous athletes themselves are huge superstars the globe over. Enter teenage Winnie (Viswanathan), who decides to follow in her father’s path by discovering, encouraging, and ultimately coaching a loveable underdog monster wrestler, Rayburn (Arnett) to greatness. Someone standing in their way, amongst others, is Crews’ Tentacular, a wrestler not ready to share prime time stardom with the upstart while he still believes he is amongst the best the sport has seen.
Rumble is directed by Hamish Grieve, based on a script by Grieve and Matt Lieberman, which itself comes from the graphic novel Monster on the Hill by Rob Harrell.
Don’t miss it on Paramount+ now!
