The latest trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s latest mind-bender has arrived, starring Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born) and Cate Blanchett (Carol). From the get-go, this trailer gets under your skin and that is exactly what the filmmaker is seeking.
Searchlight Pictures is releasing Nightmare Alley in theaters on December 17 and illustrates how far the moviemaker has come from simple scares to full-on psychological thrills that keep the viewer guessing and white-knuckling their armrests!
Nightmare Alley features Cooper as a “medium,” aka Stanton “Stan” Carlisle. Stan teams up with a psychiatrist with a mysterious past (and present for that matter), played by Blanchett, Dr. Lillith Ritter.
What’s fascinating is one gets the sense that each could be dangerous for the other, so a del Toro-induced game of cat and mouse ensues and we are here for it.
Del Toro’s latest cinematic joy also features an all-star cast including Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, David Strathairn, Clifton Collins Jr., Tim Blake Nelson, and Mary Steenburgen.
Nightmare Alley is based on the 1940s book of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham. There was a 1946 film version, but del Toro insists his film is much more faithful to the written word.
