Universal Pictures has unveiled the very first trailer for their highly anticipated stage to screen effort, Dear Evan Hansen. The Broadway sensation has become a cinematic experience and just from a 3-minute trailer, one can tell that they captured the raw emotion that lies at the heart of the sensational story.
Ben Platt reprises his title role from the Broadway musical, the one that earned him a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. He’s a senior in high school, crippled by anxiety and self-doubt that has him writing himself letters, per instructions of his therapist. It’s all in an effort to help Evan break out of our cloud of fear and apprehension.
One day, he meets Connor, and that changes everything.
When Connor takes his own life, it forces Evan to become close to the deceased mother and father (Amy Adams and Danny Pino) and daughter, played by Kaitlyn Dever.
The flick is helmed by a director who knows how to hit those teenage emotive notes impeccably, Perks of a Wallflower’s Stephen Chbosky. Look for this film to wow audiences when it lands in theaters on September 24 and from what can be discerned from this trailer, there may be Oscar in this film’s future.
Dear Evan Hansen also stars Julianne Moore, Danny Pino, Nik Dodani, Colton Ryan, DeMarius Copes, and Amandla Stenberg.
