Venom: Let There Be Carnage Trailer Previews Venom’s Sequel

The first trailer for Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage has arrived and it’s everything you would want… and even a wee bit more!

Tom Hardy is back as the title character and his alter ego and from the looks of things, he hasn’t lost a step. Venom, the first film, arrived in 2018 and was a surprise success. Many box office experts and movie journalists were caught off guard by its $850 global cume when it was thought of simply as fool’s errand. I mean, an entire movie based around one of Spider-Man’s big baddies? Who would have thought that it would resonate with audiences the way that it did?

But it did, largely due to Hardy’s charm and command over the dual demands of playing Venom and Eddie Brock. The man who helped make Mad Max Fury Road not only a box office success, but an Oscar darling as well brought something intangible to the Venom experience that was pitch-perfect. For example, his chemistry with what the internet would simply call the “Bodega Lady,” aka Peggy Lu’s Mrs. Chen was humorously and charmingly off the charts.

Well, guess what? She’s back too! As is Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady and Oscar winner Michelle Williams’ love interest for Brock, Anne Weying.

Taking the helm for the sequel is Gollum himself, Andy Serkis (Ruben Fleischer helmed the first film). His Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle was surprisingly commanding, and we look forward to seeing what he can bring to the Spidey universe—or, at this point… is it the Venom universe?

Joining the cast is Stephen Graham, as well as Naomie Harris as the legendary Spider-Man villain, Shriek. Well, it’s rumored that that is who she is playing. Judging by her moment in the spotlight in the above teaser, The Movie Mensch believes that is exactly that part that Harris (soon to be seen in No Time to Die) will play.

Look for Venom: Let There Be Carnage lands in theaters September 24.
