The family is back as Universal Pictures has unveiled a new F9 trailer that is absolutely bonkers nuts. But that makes sense, right? I mean if sequels are supposed to up the ante, why not go balls-to-the-walls insane when you’re on your ninth installment?
One of the most striking aspects of the trailer below is the long-rumored return of Han Lue (Sung Kang), who was thought to be dead. We also get a few other The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, such as Bow Wow’s Twinkie, Earl Hu (Jason Tobin), and Sean Boswell as Lucas Black. All welcomed returns, to say the least.
From the main cast, of course, there’s Dom (Vin Diesel), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Tej Parker (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges) Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster), Megal Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel), Cipher (Charlize Theron) and of course the Dame herself, Helen Mirren’s Magdalene Shaw.
The newbies this time out are headlined by John Cena, who portrays Dom’s brother and we see quite quickly why these two don’t get along. He’s our baddie!
Cena is Jakob Toretto, who is a master thief, and he’s joined by stars Michael Rooker, Anna Sawai, Cardi B, Francis Ngannou, Ozuna, Finn Cole, and Vinnie Bennet.
The last time we saw these cats racing around to save the world was in 2017 with The Fate and the Furious. This has been the longest period without a Fast movie in the franchise’s history. Then again, that’s understandable given the virus pandemic that has been plaguing the world.
It was supposed to arrive on three different dates in 2021, but now we have a date that Universal promises will be firm. Look for F9 to hit theaters only on June 25.
Also… one more thing. Notably absent are Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Shaw (Jason Statham). Perhaps they’re too busy with their own franchise, Hobbs and Shaw.
