Marvel has just dropped the “midseason trailer” for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and as the show is building towards its climactic finish, this is just what we needed. After what occurred at the conclusion of last week’s episode, our jaws are still dragging on the floor! Cannot wait to witness what Marvel has in store for Sebastian Stan and his Winter Soldier and Sam Wilson and his Falcon (Anthony Mackie).
This has become a story—in many ways—about Captain America’s shield and what it means to wield it, possess it, and more importantly… earn it.
Bucky Barnes (Stan) has been questioning Sam and his decision to give up the shield “to a museum” rather than become the next Captain America. That honor instead went to John Walker (Wyatt Russell) who a debate has raged as to whether his character is worthy of the shield once carried by Steve Rogers’ Captain America (with its defining performance by Chris Evans). It supposed to be that way. This Cap isn’t necessarily supposed to be Steve Rogers 2.0, and he is probably the furthest thing to it. It’s been almost as fascinating to watch the fans react as it is to witness Russell do his thing and act as differently than Rogers ever would.
Meanwhile, after breaking Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) out of prison, Falcon and the Winter Soldier have had their hands full. He’s been helpful, well immensely, but still… he has a habit of trying to slip away while those from Wakanda want him for their own reasons.
There are two more episodes of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and I have no idea which way it’s going to go. A second season isn’t guaranteed, but I would be surprised if it didn’t happen.
