Black Adam Release Date Announced: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is Cooking Up Some Superhero Magic

For those who have waited patiently for The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, to enter the superhero fray (beyond his usual cinematic heroics), we now finally have a release date for the highly anticipated Black Adam.

Johnson, utilizing his massive social media following, plus utilizing an old practical advertising method (taking over Times Square in New York City), used an NCAA Basketball Regional Semifinal game (another item with a lot of eyeballs) to let the world know that July 29, 2022, will be the day that Johnson is all set to join the superhero landscape.

To quote the studio, “The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change.” You bet it is!

Hot on the heels of the super-improved Zack Snyder’s Justice League and well-received solo vehicles for Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and even Shazam! the world now knows when they can expect Johnson’s trademark smile and a smirk that will be perfect for the DC superhero.

Johnson plays the titular antihero, and his story should make for some intriguing cinema.

It was also announced that a stellar former James Bond, Pierce Brosnan, has joined the cast as Justice Society of America founding member Dr. Fate, also known as Kent Nelson.

The flick has been shooting for just about two weeks now and this writer, for one, cannot wait to see the completed package.

Brosnan and Johnson are just two parts of a stellar ensemble cast that includes Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge (who just wowed as Mohammed Ali in One Night in Miami) as Hawkman, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. Joining them will be Marwan Kenzari in an as yet to be determined role. Sarah Shahi is set to portray “a university professor and freedom fighter leading the resistance in Kahndaq.”

The movie is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. He dazzled with Blake Lively in the starring pole position in The Shallows, and most pertinently, the helmer also formed a titanic talent tandem with Johnson on the Mouse House’s latest ride-to-big-screen-effort, Jungle Cruise.
