Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall return in the sequel to Coming to America that is three decades in the making. Amazon Prime will premiere Coming 2 America on March 5 and will find Murphy’s King Akeem (someone’s gotten a promotion!) and Semmi (Hall) returning to the titular country in search of the King’s long-lost son.
King Akeem is now the ruler of Zamunda, but his father (played by James Earl Jones in the original and in the sequel) is still around to offer some paternal advice. Akeem and his wife Lisa (Shari Headley) have three daughters and seem to be living a blissful life. When he becomes aware that there is an heir in the good ole USA, (played by Jermaine Fowler), he must return to America. Seems that in Zamunda, only a male may inherit the throne. That doesn’t sit well with his wife or their three daughters.
As is the case with any sequel, the ante is upped here. In this case, we get to see more extravagance of Zamunda, but also in the exponentially large cast, from adding Wesley Snipes as an African rival, Garcelle Beauvais, Teyana Taylor, John Amos, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Louie Anderson, Leslie Jones, and Kiki Layne.
