Eddie Murphy is back as Prince Akeem and he’s brought his best pal Semmi (Arsenio Hall) in Coming 2 America and we’ve got the first teaser trailer!
The film, heading to Amazon on March 5, 2021, chronicles Akeem as he has to return to America in search of his lost son. Seems his father, the King (James Earl Jones), is on his last legs and is worried about leaving the kingdom to a prince who has an heir to the throne himself, but who is lost his way and gone to the States.
Coming to America sent Akeem and Semmi as they headed to Queens, New York City to find a wife for the royal. Along the way, he found lessons in life and in love. Now’s he’s back in America in search of a son who wants nothing to do with the royalty responsibilities in their affluent African nation.
The long-lost son, Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler), is in Queens, that much is known. Looks our boys are heading back to the land they first visited three decades prior. Along the way, we will meet some old pals, such as those barbershop hoots, all played by Hall and Murphy.
The flick looks entertaining and frankly, gorgeous. Kind of excited for this one—sequels with decades between them have a spotty record, just look at Zoolander 2. But there is something about all that are involved in this effort that we are optimistic.
I mean, look at this supporting cast: Garcelle Beauvais, Louis Anderson, Shari Headley, John Amos, and Vanessa Bell Calloway all come back will be back. Joining the cast will be KiKi Layne, Wesley Snipes, Tracy Morgan, Teyana Taylor, and Leslie Jones.
