John Belushi was larger-than-life and taken from us way too soon. The SNL founding member, movie star, and pop culture stalwart had many gifts—but they all centered on pushing the boundaries of entertainment. He made us laugh as few had before him, and few have since.
Showtime will be airing Belushi and will include interviews with some of the biggest stars to share the same space with the SNL breakout star, including his partner in crime, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Ivan Reitman, John Landis, Harold Ramis, Belushi’s wife Judith, Penny Marshall and Carrie Fisher.
Belushi died at the age of 33 in 1982 and left behind a legacy of work that has stood the test of time, but sadly teased the tip of the iceberg that we got to see from such a talent. At one point, as mentioned in the below trailer, Belushi had the number one television show in late-night, the number one movie in the country with Animal House, and the number one album in the land with the Blues Brothers. There’s on top, and then there’s what Belushi achieved.
What also should be interesting is the commentary on the documentary provided by none other than his brother, Jim Belushi, who followed in his footsteps into the entertainment industry, and one could argue never got out of his brother’s shadow. Nor did he seem to want to.
Look for Belushi on Showtime on November 22 at 8 p.m.
