The first trailer for Netflix’s The Devil All the Time will rock you. It features an all-star cast, led by Tom Holland—in his first role that didn’t find him being Peter Parker or Spider-Man in some time—as well as Robert Pattinson (soon, at some point, to be seen in Tenet), Bill Skarsgård (It), Haley Bennet, Riley Keough and Jason Clarke (Chappaquiddick, Pet Sematary). And as you will see in the teaser below, it looks intense.
The film takes place in rural post-WWII Ohio and follows these cast of characters tensely through the 60s. Pattinson portrays a not on the level preacher and further shows that this thespian is the real deal, yes, in merely a few minutes. He has been turning in performances that have eclipsed his fame generating time in the Twilight franchise. From The Lost City of Z to the Safdie brothers’ Good Time and of course, The Lighthouse, Pattinson is poised to explode simultaneously with his stellar gifts and being able to balance indie films such as The Devil All the Time and his upcoming The Batman and the previously mentioned Tenet.
Holland is navigating these unsavory waters that he knows all-too-well. His parents (Skarsgård and Bennet) died under nefarious circumstances when he was young and that hangs over his head like an anvil. Now, what Keough and Clarke have to do with this whole thing, is mysterious, but one thing is for sure—they are not on the up and up.
Lest we leave out another MCU who is part of this menagerie, Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier) stars as a crooked lawman who will play a vital role in how this entire affair works out.
The Devil All the Time lands on Netflix on September 16 and is based on Donald Ray Pollock’s 2011 book of the same moniker. The flick was directed by Antonio Campos, and the ensemble is filled out by Mia Wasikowska, Eliza Scanlen, and Harry Melling.
