Soul Trailer: Pixar Asks Some Serious Questions

The latest trailer for Soul has arrived from Pixar and for those of you who felt that first Soul teaser was prepping to tell us a story about what happens after you die … looks like you nailed it.

Joe Gardner (Jamie Foxx) is a middle school band teacher who scores the opportunity of a lifetime to play piano for a jazz singer in a well known club. Then … he falls through an open manhole and into the great beyond. Is he dead? Perhaps …

Soul was written and directed by Pete Docter, one of Pixar’s most gifted storytellers. He’s the guy behind Monsters Inc., Up and Inside Out. Given what this trailer has taught us about the subject of the second Pixar movie of 2020 (the first is out now, Onward), I cannot think of a more astute filmmaker to deliver on the premise than Docter.

Joining Foxx in the cast is Tina Fey, who voices the person who is key to Joe’s transcendence or … potential return to earth.

What’s fascinating is the music for this jazz-centric flick is being composed by Nine Inch Nails leader Trent Reznor and his Oscar winning collaborator, Atticus Ross. The voice cast also includes Questlove, Daveed Diggs and Phylicia Rashad.

Look to find some Soul when the flick hits theaters June 19.
