It’s the time of pet rocks and groovy cats for the Minions sequel, Minions 2: The Rise of Gru. Our favorite yellow-pill-looking devotees of evil doers have found their BFF and now Gru (Steve Carell) and the gang are divulging a take us back to the beginning after they first hooked up at the close of 2015’s Minions when Sandra Bullock’s baddie was out of the picture.
Illumination Entertainment looks like they have done it again as the first full trailer is here. There’s something about the animated comedic chemistry between Carell and the Minions that is just priceless. This is now the fifth film featuring the characters.
The Rise of Gru takes place in the crocheted awesomeness of the 70s as a tween Gru is ready to rock when it comes to exploring his budding villainy. Most 12-year-old boys are curious about girls, sports, being outside and the unbridled joy of being 12! Not Gru, even at that young age, as we see in the trailer, treachery is in his blood—it’s destiny!
Gru and the gang are hoping for fireworks when Minions 2: The Rise of Gru rockets into theaters on July 3.
