In anticipation of its trailer dropping any day now, Sony has unveiled some priceless photos from Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Among the subjects of those first images are Paul Rudd and Stranger Things and It breakout star, Finn Wolfhard.
Oh, and lest we forget an automobile that has become iconic since the first Ghostbusters introduced us to Ecto 1 in the 1980s.
The original film’s director, Ivan Reitman, is a producer on the summer 2020 sequel and his son, Jason Reitman, is the man behind the camera for what is being called the next official sequel to Ghostbusters 2.
What we know thus far about the plot concerns Carrie Coon, who portrays a mom named Callie. Captain Marvel breakout star Mckenna Grace stars as her STEM gifted daughter Phoebe and Wolfhard is her fan of cars son, Trevor. They move to a rural community in Oklahoma. The clan inherited the property they are going to live in from her father—who she doesn’t know.
Most of the original, and iconic, cast is slated to return—although in what capacity is a mystery at this point. Perhaps that upcoming trailer will shed a wee bit of light on the subject. Although, we doubt it!
The younger Reitman told Vanity Fair a bit about what to expect. “As the family arrives at an old farm, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters,” Reitman informed the mag. “Trevor and Phoebe are about to find out who their grandfather was and whether they’re ready to pick up the proton pack themselves.”
At one point, “Phoebe will find a device that reads psychokinetic energy.” Color us intrigued!
For those who wonder, Rudd is playing a “summer school teacher named Mr. Grooberson who was a kid when the Manhattan Crossrip occurred. Although later generations may think of it as a myth, or not think of it at all, he remembers it obsessively and is excited to pass on what he knows.”
Look for Ghostbusters: Afterlife in cinemas on July 10, 2020.
