After years of promising fans a solo movie for our favorite Russian all-around badass in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a Black Widow movie was finally green lit. Now, we have a teaser trailer and Scarlett Johansson looks more ready than ever to carry her own Marvel movie.
Natasha/Black Widow has been a part of the Avengers world since that first Avengers flick. She made her MCU debut in Iron Man 2 when she landed and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) famously looked at Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and said, “I want one.” That was many moons ago and to see Johansson anchoring a Widow flick fills me with such joy. It has been a long time coming.
Black Widow is the first film (a true honor) to kick off the Phase Four of the MCU. If the woman who plays her sister in the above teaser looks familiar, it is because she is everywhere lately. That’s Florence Pugh, who dazzled in Fighting with My Family and looks amazing in the upcoming Little Women. Also front and center in the first teaser is Stranger Things star David Harbour as Alexei, also known as The Red Guardian. Rachel Weisz is Melina, filling out what looks to be an impressive cast.
The flick is helmed by Cate Shortland and lands in theaters on May 1, 2020.
