If you have been following The Movie Mensch for the last few years, it should be hardly a surprise that this guy adores James Bond and the entire universe that the superspy inhabits. We love Daniel Craig as the British agent with a license to kill. We love the title of the 25th Bond flick, No Time to Die. What we don’t love … is the first poster for the latest installment to the franchise that began over five decades ago. Why? Read on …
First of all, today is James Bond day. What is so special about October 5 that it carries the moniker of being 007’s big day? The day is significant because it was on this date in 1962 when Dr. No—the first James Bond flick—debuted in theaters!
OK, the reason why The Movie Mensch is not thrilled with this first one sheet is it looks like something somebody crafted in their room while learning the ins and outs of Photoshop. It isn’t the most exciting photo of Craig as Bond. It’s not the greatest framing job of film title with action behind it. Most of all, there is nothing in that poster (save Craig’s blue-eyed steely look) that makes me want to run to the theaters and see Bond 25. That being said, no matter what the poster looks like (or the trailer, which we hear will premiere in a few days)—of course this writer will be there with bells on for the latest Bondian adventure.
When it comes to plot, No Time to Die finds James Bond having left his service to Queen and country behind and his chilling like Bob Dylan in Jamaica. When his CIA BFF Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright, returning to the role) arrives on the Caribbean isle asking for a favor, the bad ass Brit swings back into action and we get to go along for the ride.
No Time to Die also stars Rami Malek (as our villain!), Lea Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes, Rory Kinnear, Ben Whishaw and Christoph (“The author of all your pain”) Waltz.
Bond is back in theaters April 8, 2020.
