As an enormous fan of INXS, I was destroyed when lead singer Michael Hutchence killed himself in 1997. He seemed to have it all, but as is the case so often with suicides from any walk of life, looking under the surface unveiled something deeply troubled. For those of us who believed that Hutchence’s life story deserved the Hollywood treatment, a trailer for Mystify: Michael Hutchence has arrived, and it is just what the doctor ordered to pay tribute to a troubled soul who sang like an angel and had the stage presence that transcends time.
The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year and could not have come from a better source. It is directed by Richard Lowenstein, who helmed a majority of INXS’s music videos and his familiarity with the band could not be more astute.
VIDEOThe documentary contains rare personal footage and insight from his fellow bandmates, as well as friends, lovers, family and his fellow music industry insiders. All told, this should be one fascinating and thoroughly entertaining endeavor.
Mystify: Michael Hutchence has a release date of October 18 in the UK, stay with The Movie Mensch for full details of when we can expect it in the states.
