The first trailer for the remake of one of the most fun horror/Christmas hybrids, Black Christmas, has arrived. Blumhouse Productions (who looks like they have scored yet again) and Universal Pictures unveiled the teaser today and it has us wondering if it’s time to bust out those delightful holiday songs!
The 1974 original has long been rumored to be ripe for the remaking, but it took a class production house like Blumhouse to bring it back and inject new life and new horrors into it as only the house that brought us the new Halloween fright fest of last year.
Imogen Poots leads the ensemble cast in Black Christmas that focuses on the senior ladies of the Mu Kappa Epsilon sorority. They have collectively decided to stay on campus for their last Christmas as college students and plan to live it up, while getting holly and jolly. Thing is, there may be a serial killer loose and if horror history has told us anything it is that sorority girls are a preferred source of ire in slashers.
Things start to get frightful when Helena goes missing after one big Christmas fete at the sorority house. Poots’ character immediately knows that something is amuck. As she peels away the layers of truths, she firmly gets the idea that the ladies of Mu Kappa Epsilon were not the only ones who sought to stay on campus for holiday break.
Black Christmas is helmed by Sophia Takal, who also co-wrote it with April Wolfe. The remake of the classic horror/holiday hybrid also features Cary Elwes, Aleyse Shannon, Brittany O’Grady, Lily Donoghue and Caleb Eberhart.
Look for the flick to haunt your holidays when it hits cinemas on December 13.
