Amazing Grace: Aretha Franklin Doc Chronicles Historic Concert

In 1972, musical icon Aretha Franklin recorded a live gospel concert for the album Amazing Grace. It was captured at the most extraordinary of live shows at The New Bethel Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles in January of 1972. The footage has never been seen … until now.

When you hear who the man is who was behind the camera, one has to wonder how this documentary never saw the light of day until now. It’s none other than Oscar winner Sydney Pollack (Tootsie, Out of Africa and The Firm). Anticipation has to be beyond high for this film that lands April 5, especially considering we lost the voice of the angels to heaven above on August 16, 2008.

This has to be the ultimate tribute, witnessing her in her prime, tackling a genre of music that she owned. Franklin may have been called the Queen of Soul, but when it came to Gospel, she ruled supreme. The album that this doc chronicles being made, sold an astounding 2 million copies—unheard of in that realm of music.

Neon and Time have come together to present the trailer for the upcoming doc that has to be on everyone’s must-see list.

The quotes used to describe the film utilized throughout the teaser are all quite powerful, but none more so than “It will make you feel as if you’ve seen the face of God.”

Got chills?
