A stunning trailer for Boy Erased has arrived from Focus Features. It is powerful all on its own—what with simply telling its story of the son of a preacher who is sent to a conversion therapy camp. But, it goes a step further at the close of the trailer and gives a statistic that should make all of us sick to our stomachs.
Manchester by the Sea Oscar nominee Lucas Hedges stars as a teenager who comes out to his parents (Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman) and instead of hugs, gets sent away to “fix” his problem.
The film is based on Garrard Conley’s mesmerizing memoir.
Crowe’s character is a preacher and as illustrated in the trailer below, has little patience for a son who has made such a life choice. He even tells him he cannot live under his roof if he is defiling the will of G-d. Kidman shows incredible grace in her performance as a mother caught between her beliefs and her maternal instincts.
Boy Erased comes from director Joel Edgerton (who also stars). It also features a stellar cast led by Cherry Jones, Michael “Flea” Balzary, Troye Sivan, Joe Alwyn, Emily Hinkler, Jesse LaTourette, David Joseph Craig, Théodore Pellerin, Madelyn Cline and Britton Sear.
Prepare to be wowed when Boy Erased hits theaters on November 2.
