The first trailer for Vice has landed. Oscar winner Adam McKay (The Big Short) brings us the untold story of Dick Cheney and his far-reaching power grab as Vice President to George W. Bush’s (Sam Rockwell) President will leave you breathless—at least the trailer does.
We know history and Cheney changed it with his turn as VP, from lying about the events that led up to the Iraq War to his company’s getting rich off of it… and that is simply the beginning.
McKay knows a thing or two about shining a light on that time period. His The Big Short was a scathing indictment of the financial crash of 2008 and we cannot wait to see what he does with the meaty subject matter that is Dick Cheney and everything he brought to the current events table.
First off, we have to salute the casting, Christian Bale as Cheney and recent Oscar winner Rockwell as Bush II. That’s two Oscar winners off the bat. Then, there’s Amy Adams portraying Lynn Cheney with Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld. Wow.
This trailer has Oscar nominations written all over it, and it’s not only that aspect that is compelling. Vice shows how a neo-con took over our government in a manner that we are still paying for today.
The film also stars Tyler Perry, Allison Pill, Bill Pullman and Eddie Marsan. Look for it on December 21.
Also, the use of The Killers’ I’m the Man throughout the trailer is brilliant!
