Bohemian Rhapsody Trailer: Rami Malek Is Freddie Mercury

The first teaser trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody, the story of the rock band Queen and its iconic lead singer Freddie Mercury, has bowed.

Fox unveiled the first look at the November 2 arriving flick and it has everything you would want from a teaser. Yes, it teases profusely. It doesn’t give us much when it comes to specific story points. Such as… we know the film will begin in Queen’s early days and conclude with the band’s triumphant performance at Live Aid in 1985. What it won’t cover is the decline in Mercury’s health that led to his death from complications of AIDS years later.

As such, Bohemian Rhapsody appears to be a triumphant salute to one of the most influential bands and voices of the rock era and it is as it should be.

Bryan Singer (X-Men series) was the film’s original director, but just as filming got started he was fired and Eddie the Eagle helmer Dexter Fletcher was brought in and from what we can tell in the footage released, this is a match made in heaven.

Rami Malik (I, Robot) is Mercury and could not have been better cast. The actor gets the stage presence, the off-stage bravado and larger-than-life persona that was the Queen front-man. As a huge fan of Queen, the thrill of witnessing this teaser has us pressing play again and again. What else is interesting is this writer is a huge fan of Sacha Baron Cohen, who was initially supposed to play Mercury in an earlier incarnation of this film. Fate is a funny thing, because as awesome as he would have been, for this particular story, Malik looks like the real deal.

The biopic also stars Lucy Boynton, Tom Hollander, Aidan Gillen, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy and Joseph Mazzello.
