Searching Trailer: Thriller’s Teaser Tantalizes

The missing child genre could not have asked for a more original take than what is teased with the arrival of the trailer for Searching.

Director Aneesh Chaganty tells the story of a father (John Cho) trying to put the pieces together to determine the whereabouts of his kidnapped daughter. It is a tale told solely through screens — computer screens, smartphone screens and tablet screens.

From what we discern with this first thrilling trailer, this slow burn will work its way to an inferno of jaw-dropping suspense.

Searching is a timely tale and appears as if it could be a warning letter to parents everywhere about the dangers of getting lost in cyberspace. Where a parent once thought they knew their child to their core, one could shockingly learn that it is nowhere near the truth once the diving through the online personality profile of their children is complete.

What else that stands out with Searching is it that it focuses solely on an Asian American family, yet at the same time the film has nothing to do with their ethnic origins. This is a “it could happen to anyone” flick and that will be its highest triumph.

Cho’s father is aided in the search for his daughter by a police detective played by Will and Grace’s Debra Messing.

Put Searching on your cinematic calendar this August.
