In 1972 SuperFly hit screens and became an instant blaxploitation classic. In 2018, Director X tackles the fabled story and breathes new life into it with a modern take that chronicles the rise of the titular antihero and his world.
The landscape moves from Harlem to Atlanta, wisely so, as that city has become a seismic center of black culture on many, many levels. SuperFly does not only plant its flag in the Georgia city, it also ventures into Mexico as Trevor Jackson’s Priest Youngblood meets the cartel on its own turf in a showdown that is going to change all involved forever.
SuperFly arrives from screenwriter Alex Tse (Watchmen) and finds one of our favorite character actors, Michael Kenneth Williams as his mentor, along with Jennifer Morrison, Jason Mitchell, Lex Scott Davis and Jacob Ming-Trent.
