After the phenomenal success of The Purge and The Purge: Anarchy (both films have made over $200 million on budgets that were a fraction of that), you could say that audiences are just a little eager to witness The Purge: Election Year.
Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions have released the latest The Purge: Election Year trailer and it gives us a little more of the world we’ve been waiting to see since the first Purge landed several years ago starring Ethan Hawke.
We’ve wanted to get a glimpse into the power elite that has launched The Purge. Who are these leaders and is there anyone that can stop this annual evening of murder and mayhem?
It seems the answer to that question is yes and that’s a Senator who promises to fight for an end of the annual Purge if she is re-elected. Protecting her is Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo, back from his explosive turn in the second film), so she’s in good hands. That’s good, because running against The Purge has created a number of high powered enemies for the Senator who is seeking change. On this year’s Purge, she is target number one.
Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost) stars as the senator, along with Betty Gabriel, J.J. Soria, Mykelti Williamson and Edwin Hodge.
Look for the latest Purge (and greatest?!) to land on July 1.
