Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures has unleashed the first trailer for The Purge: Election Year and it has immediately shot to the higher echelons of our can’t-wait-for-summer-movies list for 2016.
Frank Grillo is back in the role he originated in the second Purge film, as Leo Barnes, who we meet 15 years after that last movie ended. He is part of a security team for a U.S. Senator who is going on a one-woman campaign to end the purge as it has come to “define our country.”
Needless to say, she is met with quite a lot of resistance. Good thing she has Barnes in her corner, the man who helped all those people survive the Purge in the last film.
This time out, the night of The Purge arrives when most of her enemies want her dead. Well, good thing murder is legal for 12 hours once a year.
Looks like it’s going to be a long night once again for Barnes and anyone with him.
The Purge: Election Year stars Elizabeth Mitchell as Senator Charlie Roan, whose night on the streets of D.C. will find her coming face-to-face with some of her detractors in the most terrifying of ways.
Prepare to cast your vote when The Purge: Election Year lands July 1.
