Jurassic World accomplished something that only a handful of other summer movies has managed to do: Win three straight weeks at the box office in the ultra competitive hotter movie season. With its $54.2 million haul in the final weekend in June, the Chris Pratt-starring film joined The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers as the only summer movies to go three-for-three in box office victories.
Jurassic World has now banked an impressive $500.1 million in three weeks. Yes, that’s half a billion bucks and it is not done yet.
The Pixar gem Inside Out came in second place with an impressive $52.1 million, just barely missing the top spot on the charts. The Amy Poehler-starring charmer has now banked $184.9 million in its 10 days of release.
Third place belonged to one of the two new films that hit screens last week. Neither could crack the top two. Ted 2 earned $33 million, and fourth place newcomer Max took in $12.2 million.
Closing out the top five was Melissa McCarthy’s action comedy Spy. The Paul Feign-directed instant classic made $7.8 million to take its total to $88.3 million.
