Jurassic World became only the second movie in history to have back-to-back $100 million-plus weekends as it took the top spot at the weekend box office for this third weekend in June.
After banking a record-setting $208 million in its first weekend last week, Jurassic World made $102 million in its second weekend, which was enough to make it repeat as the nation’s top movie.
The Chris Pratt-starring Jurassic World has now earned $398.2 million in ten days. Globally, it’s knocking on the door of being the latest Universal movie to be the quickest to get to a billion dollars. Furious 7 currently holds that title and it’s pretty much a safe bet that the dinosaurs of Jurassic World will take that title within the next few days.
Just behind it was another record-setting movie, Inside Out. The Pixar-Disney movie set the standard for a second place film with its haul of $91 million in its debut weekend.
The Melissa McCarthy comedy Spy took third with $10.5 million, taking its gross to $74.3 million, which is fantastic news for fans of that film (of which The Movie Mensch is one) who want to see a sequel.
Fourth place belonged to the former number one film, San Andreas. The Dwayne Johnson disaster flick continued to shake things up, adding $8.2 million to its total of $132.2 million.
Closing out the top five was the indie charmer Dope. The high school set comedy debuted with $6 million.
